The M Star motel on Dublin Granville Road was proposed to be purchased and have its 350sf motel rooms re-branded as “microapartments” with permanent residents. Neighborhood zoning and development leaders disagreed with the plan, saying it might be well-suited to a walkable area with lots of amenities, but would provide a very low quality of life for apartment dwellers at 161 and Ambleside, where there are no shops, groceries or amenities.

The Northland Development Committee recommended against the rezoning to apartments, and the city agreed, defeating the request.

Community leaders said they envision better uses for the sites of the decaying motels.
